Ohio just hosted a federal event pushing CHOICE arrangements (individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements). The press conference is the least interesting part of the story.
The market: 20,000+ employers offering some version of this model, 500,000+ covered lives, and 34% year-over-year growth among larger employers. Real numbers with real caveats.
The trap: predictable employer spending and cheaper healthcare for workers are two different outcomes. Fixing a contribution can shift every future premium increase onto employees. Spreadsheets are good at hiding that.
The opportunity: compliance rules, payment reconciliation, clinical coverage matching, and broker distribution all need purpose-built software. None of it is solved by a polished enrollment interface.
